Growing up...already

Believe it or not, our little, tiny baby is already growing up. :(

Thank goodness she hasn't been interested in crawling before now (so we haven't exactly encouraged this skill--sue us; we knew we wouldn't be carrying her to junior high.) Alas, she has now begun the first stages of scooting and we are therefore forced to begin the process of baby-proofing our house. (No minor task, to be sure.)

Already, we are putting away things that she is outgrowing, like this swing. How tiny she was when we first put her in it--she couldn't even hold her head up--now she looks like a giant in it!

The other day she even learned how to drink from a straw. (I'd been trying to teach her that for a while, but someone showed me a trick that really works!) She was SO proud.

She is getting so big! And she does look very proud to be sipping that straw. I'm curious what the trick is...?

Yes, please share the trick.

Seeing how big A looks reminded me that it's been entirely too long since we've seen you guys. Look at how long her hair is getting, too! I have to ask: Do you find that it's thicker now than it was before the buzz??

The trick: put your finger over the top of a straw to get a small amount of liquid into it and then put it to the baby's mouth. Once they put their lips to it, let the liquid go. Do this once or twice so that they understand that something comes out of the straw. Then do the same thing but don't let the liquid go; keep your finger on it and they will attempt to suck the liquid out. Do this a few times. Once they suck correctly this way, then put the straw back into the drink and up to their lips. They will suddenly understand how it works!

To Denise: yes, entirely too long. We would love to get together--just let us know when you guys are up for something.

Regarding the hair: it's naturally difficult to say how thick her hair would have been otherwise. That being said, I do actually think that her hair feels pretty course for baby hair, so I think it did indeed help!
